Journal Entry 3

Date: 06.05.2023

Activity:

- Started working on the One Page Design Document on Microsoft Paint at 17:00. I worked on the "spitter room" at the top right corner of the level.

- Worked at the "door puzzle" thing at the center. I don't know how long this took, but it was pretty long, because I was OCDing hard on it, trying to make things symmetrical.

- Done at around 21:00. Writing this journal entry.

Notes:

Here we go again. I made the top right corner. I call it the "spitter room". It's not like it's only comprised of spitters, but there's a "spitter only" part at the end, hence the name. In truth, this part was going to be full of spitters initially, but after the revelation I talked about in the previous journal entry, I kind of had to make changes, but the name kept living on (ain't that a long sentence!).

After that, I put the "open doors" in the middle. This took ridiculously long. Probably more than an hour. The reason is because I wanted to make things look all symmetrical and stuff, so that I don't lose points from having a design document that doesn't look good or something.

In all honesty, I spent so much time only this document, despite the fact that it is 100% clear that I will be the sole developer of this particular project, and I truly resent it. Were it not for this design document thing, I would have been done with this project long ago. I'm not buying this argument of "oh but it's the intended process, this is how it'd be done in the real world" and so on. Because this is not the end all be all method. If it were, then everybody would be using it. To be fair, I don't think anyone should use this methodology under any circumstance, but alas here we are, doing what we're obligated to do...

I still haven't received a reply from the professor, hence I don't know if there's going to be a final fight at the end of the level or not, which is why I haven't drawn that part yet. I have yet to find out what constitutes a "non-trivial custom code".

I also drew what the UI is meant to look like. The player will be able to switch between weapon modes by pressing 1, 2 and 3. The selected weapon will be shown in text, under the health bar. This is the current plan, assuming that "code which makes the weapon change functionality of the weapon" thing is considered non-trivial enough.

Anyways, I believe I wrote enough text to cover 5-10 minutes, hence I shall conclude this journal entry here, as I have nought left to say (actually I do, but I'm holding myself).

Invested Hours:

- Roughly 3 hours, 30 minutes working on the document.

- 5-10 minutes on the journal.

Outcome

1) Work in progress OPDD.

2) Obsolete journal entry #3.

EDIT: In order to maintain this "date, activity, notes, etc." format, I copy and paste from one of my previous journal entries, and then edit the content. I had mistakenly copied extra text which was not meant to be in the document, hence I removed it via this edit.
