Date: 03.05.2023

Activity:

- Started working on the One Page Design Document on Microsoft Paint at 15:20. I worked on the "parkour room" at the bottom right corner of the level. This took 80 minutes.

- Took a break at 16:40.

- Started at 19:00. Worked on the "chomper room" at the top left corner of the level. This took 60 minutes.

- Stopped at 20:00.

- Writing this journal entry.

Notes:

So, here I am working on this again. It's taking longer than I expected. I finished the "parkour" and "chomper" rooms. I'll do the "spitter room" later (top right corner).

After emailing back and forth with the professor, I learnt that we're supposed to be adding "non-trivial custom code" to our game. I didn't know about this, because it wasn't written in the tutorial .pdf thing, so my initial idea had to be modified.

Before this revelation, I was planning to design the level in a way that the player would be able to finish the level without picking up any weapons (like a challenge run). But now, I have to add some code to the game. I haven't really been able to come up with anything, since the 2D Game Kit pretty much covers most things that can be done in a reasonable amount of time.

Me and the professor have been emailing ideas back and forth. I'm waiting for a response at the moment, but I think I could make the pistol "multifunctional". Meaning, you have one weapon, but it can be "modded" to work in various ways: Pistol, machinegun, shotgun, etc. I think this is OK as a "non-trivial custom code", but I still have to wait for the professor's verification.

Other than that, being able to finish the level without using any weapons kind of got thrown out of the window. After all, what's the point of having all those weapon customizations if the player can finish the game without shooting? I don't know. Anyways... Hence, I'll probably make a final level where you get to put those weapon mods to work. Like a swarm of enemies kind of thing...

Anyway that's it, I gotta eat, I'm starving, can't write. Bye.

Invested Hours:
